As soon as they see Priscilla, they drop a couple of traps in front of the altar. There she finds a couple of flame demons, also looking particularly strong and fast. As Vnrff quietly walks back to the altar, the earth demons ignore him and slowly move toward the main room.Īs the cultists fall, Priscilla shifts gears and heads to the room opposite the earth demons. When they do, Vnrff attacks their minds, causing them to be unable to see him. Having dealt with these kinds of demons before, he knows they are slow moving, so he stays near the entrance and waits for them to come to him. As the cultists promised, they look bigger, stronger, and faster than they should. Vnrff opens the door nearest to him where he finds two towering earth demons guarding an altar. Thankfully, the cultists are not difficult to defeat, so the rest of the party tells Vnrff to go ahead and explore one of the rooms while Hephaestus backs up the other two. Boldar taps into the earth around him and throws three massive stone boulders, ripped from the floor, at the cultists. Priscilla takes more damage than she would like and the curses frustrate her greatly. Unfortunately for them, two of the cultists are more powerful than they’ve seen before, and with each attack, their enchanted daggers curse Boldar and Priscilla. The cultists’ attacks do little damage, their blunt daggers mostly bouncing off of the two warriors’ armor. Priscilla and Boldar take the lead, forcing the cultists to focus on them.

Knowing how dangerous these cultists can be if they go unchecked, all four allies race into the room to deal with them before opening any of the other doors.

Even if you strike us down, the Gloom will bring forth your end.” The cultists raise their hands and a barrier surrounds the artifact. “The artifact is ours, and it has made our minions more powerful than ever.

In the center stands another group of cultists, preparing incantations around a reddish clay vessel, roughly the size of a skull. They open the door to the next room and find a large hall with many exits. That makes it easy for Boldar, Priscilla, and Vnrff to finish them off before they have a chance to even draw their weapons or mutter an incantation. Not only does it poison them, but the acid eats through their clothing, and continues eating into their skin. Hephaestus, having drawn the poison out of herself and all of her comrades, takes that same poison and throws it at the cultists. After everything they have been through up to this point, a couple of hooded figures do not scare the Shield Syndicate. We control this temple now, and all its power serves us.” The party remains unafraid and confident. They approach the main chamber with their weapons drawn, just as a group of hooded figures emerges from the shadows. As they step inside, they notice signs of recent visitors – a broken twig, footprints in the dust, and the like. Still unclear as to the nature of this ancient artifact other than that it holds great power, the Shield Syndicate’s resident Tinkerer, Mindthief, Cragheart, and Scoundrel head into the temple – a decaying stone structure that gives them a deep sense of foreboding. Heading into this adventure poisoned and damaged was not how they wanted to start out. The mercenaries run for cover among the trees, but are hit by the drakes’ acidic spit a number of times in the process. As the flock turns and descends toward the party, Hephaestus realizes that she just shot at a group of drakes. The shot misses, but it gets their attention. They are much farther away than they realized and much bigger. The instant she pulls the trigger, however, she notices something odd about the birds. Hephaestus pulls out one of her contraptions and takes aim. Having recovered from their pie eating ordeal, they decide some fresh meat would do them some good. A large flock of birds is flying overhead. As they walk down the road on the way to the temple, they hear the sound of many wings in the sky. Now that the Shield Syndicate has explored the mystery behind that coin, they decide it’s time to go looking for that ancient artifact that the Prime Demon wanted them to fetch for him.
